何か変ですよ　６３：　進化論を教えないこと

Turkey don’t teach evolution theory in high school, so our world begins retreating more.
With this, evolution theory is kept away not only in Christianity but also in Islam.
We briefly look at harmful results of not teaching evolution theory.

 

世界がまた一つ後退し始めた、トルコが高校で進化論を教えなくなるからだ。
これでキリスト教圏だけでなくイスラム教圏でも進化論が遠ざけられる。
進化論を教えない事の弊害について考えます。

Introduction
The evolution theory Darwin advocated is widely recognized as science in the world.
On the other hand, many religions have individual creation myths about human birth, so they conflict with the evolution theory.
And people who believe that the scriptures are correct one by one is stubbornly opposed to introducing the evolution theory into their school education.

Is it a problem if the public can’t learn about evolution theory ?
It surely expose the advancement and peace of the world to risk, If the public can’t understand the key point of the evolution theory.
I will briefly explain this.

 

はじめに
ダーウィンらが唱えた進化論は世界で科学として広く認められている。
しかし、多くの宗教は独自の人間誕生の創造神話を持っており、これが進化論と衝突することになる。
そして聖典を一字一句正しいとする人々は、頑なに進化論を学校教育に導入することに反対する。

国民が進化論を教わらないことは問題でしょうか？
国民が進化論の要点を理解しないことは世界の発展と平和にマイナスになるはずです。
このことを簡単にみます。

 

Education Controversy about the evolution theory in the United States
In states that many Christian conservatives live in, from the 1920 ‘s, state laws prohibiting teaching the evolution theory at schools were established one after another.
On the other hand, liberal people disputed it and these ban laws were brought to the US Supreme Court and contested.

Finally, in 1987, these ban laws were considered unconstitutional and the contest of the evolution theory got determined.
During that time, conservative wing and liberal wing intensely controverted and had a PR war about ” Is the evolution theory a science? Is the Creation in the Bible a historical fact?”

Even now, about half of the Americans believe that ” God created humans about 10,000 years ago.”

 

 

米国での進化論教育論争
米国において、キリスト教保守派が多い州では１９２０年代から、進化論を学校で教えることを禁止する州法を次々と成立させた。
一方で、リベラルな人々がこれに異論を唱え、幾つものこれら禁止法が連邦最高裁判所まで持ち込まれ争われた。
そして遂に、１９８７年、禁止法は違憲であるとされ進化論裁判は決着した。
この間、保守派とリベラル派で「進化論は科学か？　聖書の天地創造は歴史的事実か？」を巡って激しい論争と広報合戦があった。

米国民は今でも、約半数の人が、「神が１万年ほど前に、人間を想像した」と考えている。

Reason why the evolution theory is denied
“God made the heavens and earth. ….. God made a man in the image of God.”
This is at the beginning of the Bible, Genesis.
That’s why this God’s word contradicts the evolution theory.

On the other hand, the evolution theory explains as follows.
“Very simple primitive organisms had repeated various mutations, only things adapted to the environment remained, and various creatures were born by the natural selection. One kind of them became humanity.”

The evolution theory doesn’t require existence of God.
And, the natural selection theory gives people an image of the jungle law.
Furthermore, mankind that is only product of chance hasn’t greatness being due to be chosen by God.

Therefore, Christian conservatives (annotation 1) that think the Bible absolute are sure not to admit this.

 

 

進化論が否定される理由
「神が天と地をつくった。・・・。神は神に似せた人をつくった」
これが聖書、創世記の冒頭にあり、この神の言葉が進化論と矛盾するからです。

一方、進化論は以下のように説く。
「極めて単純な原始生物が様々な変異を繰り返し、環境に適応したものだけが残る自然淘汰によって様々な生物が生まれた。その一つが人類です。」

進化論は神の存在を必要としません。
また自然淘汰説は弱肉強食をイメージさせます。
さらに偶然の産物に過ぎない人類には神に選ばれた偉大さがありません。

これでは聖書を絶対と考えるキリスト教保守派（注釈１）は認めたくないはずです。

 

 

Other religions and the evolution theory
Since ancient times, there were creation myths in each place, the origins of heavens and earth, people, royal family etc. were explained in them.
And many religions, Judaism, Islam and Hinduism were incorporating them (annotation 2).

Naturally, the evolution theory was also unacceptable for Muslims.
Turkey, which was most advanced in secularization, finally removes the evolution theory from the curriculum following Saudi Arabia. (keep teaching at university)

 

 

他の宗教と進化論
古来より、各地に創造神話があり、天地や人、王家などの起源が説明されています。
そして多くの宗教、ユダヤ教、イスラム教、ヒンドゥー教はそれを取り込んでいました（注釈２）。

当然、イスラム教にも進化論は受け入れがたいものでした。
世俗化が最も進んでいたトルコが、ついに厳格主義のサウジアラビアに次いで進化論を教育課程から外します（大学では教える）。

What is the problem?
The greatest harm to deny the evolution theory to protect myths in the scripture is that people lose scientific mind.

Importance of the scientific mind is obvious from human progress, development of medicine and living environment.
The importance of the scientific mind is to know the limits that human can understand (annotation 3), and the theory is constantly being improved through actual proof.
People can keep superstitions and delusions away by knowing this.

Also, admitting only their creation myths will deepen the conflict between the religious believers and the other religious believers

There are other reasons why the evolution theory is important.

Human evolution theory – human beings born in Africa spread to the world and we are the descendants, and if we knew this fact, we easily can realize that mankind is one.

The other is to know the background that various human mentalities, deep affection, mutual respect, hatred, anxiety, etc. were born.
Because of this, many prejudices will be lost and understanding to others will deepen.

Much of the human mentalities grew for Animals’s survival through the process of evolution.
For example, our brain has an organ that secretes hormones enhancing romantic feeling, and this operation is determined by genes and individual growth processes.
But, because it has varied, some person may feel love the same sex.

 

 

何が問題なのか？
聖典の創造神話を守る為に進化論を否定する一番の弊害は、人々が科学的な視点を失うことです。

科学的な視点がなぜ重要かは、人類の進歩、医学や生活環境の発展を見れば一目瞭然です。
科学的な視点で重要な事は、人間の理解出来る限界を知り（注釈３）、その理論が絶えず実証を経て改良されていることです。
これを知ることで人々は迷信や妄信を遠ざけることが出来る。

また自分たちの創造神話だけしか認めないことは、どうしてもそれを信じる教徒と他の宗教徒の対立を深めることになる

進化論が重要な理由が他にもあります。

人類の進化論－アフリカで誕生した人類が世界に拡散し、我々はその子孫であることを知れば、我々は人類が一つであることを実感出来るはずです。

今一つは、人類の心性―深い愛情、助け合う心、憎しみ、不安感、などが生まれた経緯を知れば、多くの偏見が無くなり、他者への理解が深まることでしょう。

心性の多くは、進化の過程で動物がより生き残る為に育まれた。
例えば、男女の恋愛感情を高めるホルモンを分泌する器官が脳にあり、この働きは遺伝子と生育過程によって制約されている。
これにバラツキがあるので、同性にも愛を感じることがあるのです。

At the end
I am really sad.
Although it can be said that many religions left a great footprint to mankind.

But, now also, for coming back to the source of the religion, the world invites conflict and seems to proceed in a nonscientific direction.

 

 

最後に
実に悲しいことです。
宗教は人類に偉大な足跡を残したと言えるが、今また、宗教の原点回帰と称して、世界は対立を招き、非科学的な方向に進むように思える。

キリスト教保守派とはプロテスタントの中でもキリスト教原理主義者などを言います。

注釈２．
仏教と儒教の宗祖、釈迦や孔子は宗教的・神話的なものを避けようとして、天地や人間の起源の説明に深入りしませんでした。

人間は宇宙や社会を完全には理解出来ないが、絶え間ない努力により、その限界を広げることが出来る。
人間は知を求めるものですが、知について謙虚であるべきです。
